Winter Juried Show Award Winners

The Duxbury Art Association recently announced the 2007 Annual Winter Juried Show award winners at its Opening Reception held on Saturday, February, 3rd at the Art Complex Museum in Duxbury. This year’s judges were Damien DeBona, Diane Levine and Elizabeth Pratt for the Fine Arts categories. Jim Fitts was the judge for the Photography categories and Andrew Mowbray was the judge for Sculpture. Over 130 outstanding works were selected from approximately 500 entries.

The exhibit will be on display at the Art Complex through April 22nd. The Museum’s hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 1:00pm – 4:00pm.

Lakeville resident and longtime Duxbury Art Association oil painting instructor, Vincent, “Jim”, LoPiccolo won “Best on Show” for his oil painting, Garlic and received a $500.00 cash prize sponsored by Rockland Trust. See photo.

In the category of Watercolor, First Place was awarded to Betty Rogers of Marshfield for Maggie’s Room. The $150 cash prize was sponsored by Mermaids of Duxbury Bay. Second prize was awarded to Marshfield resident Dominic J. Farrell for his piece, non-reCyle. Third place went to Andrew Kusmin of Manomet for Cardiac Arrest. Honorable mentions in the watercolor category were awarded to Robert Burgess of Duxbury, Kathy Ferrara of Hanson, Becky Heletky of Pembroke, and Amy Moran of Bolton.

For outstanding work in Oils and Acrylics, First Place was awarded to Robert Bolster of Walpole for his piece, Outgoing. The $150 cash prize was underwritten by the Duxbury Newcomer’s Club. Second prize was awarded to Doug Aaberg of Marshfield Hills for Dappled Light. Third Place was awarded to Irma Cerese of North Easton for Cape Cod Pond #3. Honorable mentions were awarded to Chris Gillis of Norwell, Scott Ketcham of Rockland, and Jane Seone of Marshfield.

In the category of Drawing and Pastels, First Place was awarded to Cynthia Brunk of Mashpee for her colored pencil portrait, Annabel. The $150 cash prize was sponsored by Lougee Insurance Agency, Inc. Second Prize was awarded to Susan Kelly of Walpole for Cleaning the Catch. Third Prize was awarded to Shizue Cooper of North Chatham for Kabuki Doll. Honorable mention awards were given to Cynthia Getchall of Fairhaven, Allison Krajcik of North Easton, Donna Rossetti-Bailey of Marshfield and Katherine Smit of Duxbury.

For excellence in Printmaking, First Place was awarded to Michelle Meister of Plymouth for her work, Quiet Memory. The $150 cash award was sponsored by The Studio. Second place was awarded to Joan Gallerani of Plymouth for Sekonnet Point. Third Place was awarded to Susan Denniston of Scituate for Cry of the Curve. In the category of Sculpture, First Place honors went to Nathaniel Smith of Duxbury for his piece, Untitled I. The $150 cash prize was underwritten by J & R Graphics. Second place was given to Hilary Lucier of Duxbury for her vessel, Untitled. Third place went to Joan E. Murphy of Duxbury for Jet Stream.

For outstanding Black & White Photography, First Place was awarded to Christian Waeber of Somerville for Tidal Wave. The $150 cash prize was sponsored by Verc Enterprises. Second place was awarded to Eugene Goodale for Millstone Bench, 2006. Third place went to Michael Seif of Watertown for Breaking the Sound Barrier.

In the category of Color Photography, First Place went to Fran Forman of Watertown for Hovering Child. The $150 prize was underwritten by Kingston Photo. Second Place was given to Michelle Smith of Duxbury for Fall Marsh Grass. Third place was awarded to Anne Henning of Duxbury for Isabella.

Finally, for excellence in Mixed Media, First place was awarded to Marion resident, Bo Burbank for Making Waves. The $150 cash prize was sponsored by D’Orazio’s. Second prize went to Sally Dean Mello of Marshfield for Miss August. Third prize went to Deborah Ellen Davies for 2:48 A.M.
