Children's Classes & Workshops

Children’s classes and workshops at the Duxbury Art Association are a great way to add
creativity to your child’s day. We offer classes for children as young as 3 years old and have designed classes and workshops for all of the unique stages of your child’s growth and development. Choose from classes that meet weekly for 6-8 weeks or workshops that meet
just once, either will add color and fun to your child’s life. Art, we need it now more than ever.

PDF version of our course registration form, or call us (781)934.2731, ext 4 from 9:00am until 5:00pm Monday through Friday. We can register students for classes over the phone and complete the process with payment by either MasterCard or Visa. The whole process takes
just moments and promises a season of creative rewards!

CLASSES

MONDAY

Kolorful Kids
Jeanne Wolff, Instructor
Ages 4 1/2 - 6
Mondays 1:00pm - 2:30pm (6 weeks)

We will be working with various art mediums, and exploring and experimenting with literature and music. We’ll start each class with sketching out our work. Let’s use our imaginations to create fun artwork! This will be a positive experience for your child. All materials included. Register early for this fun class, it often sells out! Be sure to dress for mess!

Cartooning
Lynda MacDonald, Instructor
Ages 8 - 12 years
Mondays: 4:30pm – 6:30pm (6 weeks)

Offering two(2) three(3) week sessions
Session one: April 28- May 12
Session two: May 19 - June 9

Learn how to make your cartoons come alive. We will create believable super heroes that fly, save the world and have incredible super powers. We will place them in a comic strip to tell your fantastic tale. The practice of story boarding and beginning animation will be introduced. Students will learn to draw the figure as the basis of their cartoon characters. Register early for this fun class, it often sells out! Dress for mess and all materials provided.

TUESDAY

Wonderful World of Crayons
Tamara Ciocci, Instructor
Ages: 3.5-5
Tuesdays: 10:00am -11:30am (8 weeks)
Offering Two (2) four(4) week sessions

Students will create masterpieces using different imaginative techniques using crayons including scratch boards, mosaics, wax relief, and more. This is the perfect class for the creative child who would love to do more than just color. All materials included. Dress for mess.

Spring Fling

Explore the wonder of spring through a variety of crafts including painting, working with seeds, origami, collage, beads and more! All materials included. Be sure to dress for mess!

WEDNESDAY

Sew your own clothes! Beginning Machine Sewing
Brooke Stanton, Instructor
Ages 8 & up
Wednesdays: 4:00pm – 6:00pm (6 weeks)

Design & Make your own Fashions! Do you want to design & make your own clothes? Have some great fabric that would look terrific as a new skirt? Bring your machine (we have a few to lend, if needed) and learn how great it feels when someone compliments your clothes & you can say, “Thanks, I made it myself!” No prior sewing experience needed.

Carpentry Sculpture

Ages 8 -14 years
Wednesdays: 4:00pm - 6:00pm (6 weeks)

Use real tools to make 3-D art. With pliers, wire nails, etc., and using woodworking as well as some traditional materials we will create several exciting projects that will likely have a special place in your home for years to come. Skills with woodworking tools will be encouraged as well as more traditional sculpture techniques in plaster and/or wire. Famous sculptures in Art History will be presented and discussed as references. All materials included. Dress for mess. Register early for this class, it often sells out!

THURSDAY

Fashion Design
Brooke Stanton, Instructor
Ages 8 and up
Thursdays: 4:00pm - 6:00pm (6 weeks)

Do you know the difference between a bell sleeve and bell bottoms? Learn all about historical dress, different fabrics & styles of clothes to create your own line of clothes. Students will learn how to identify styles and fabrics and then use what they’ve learn to draw their designs. Most classes end with our unique “clothesline critique.” New students welcome! This class is the DAA’s fun version of Project Runway! Make it work!

Exploring Clay
Kate DeSantis, Instructor
Grades 4 & up
Thursdays: 3:00pm - 4:30pm (6 weeks) OR 4:30pm - 6:00pm (6 weeks)

This class introduces students to all the basic construction methods of pinch, coil, slab, and wheel, as well as enhancing the knowledge of those students who may have more advanced skills. All levels are encouraged to join! Class fee includes all materials and firing fees. Dress for mess! Sign up early as these classes often sell out!

FRIDAY

Artistic Spanish Fun
Lisa Caron Driscoll, Instructor
Ages 4.5-7
Fridays: 1:00pm – 2:30pm (6 weeks)

Join Senorita Lisa Caron Driscoll, owner of Spanish Fun franchise & founder of Artsy Amigos), to learn the basics of the Spanish language while creating costumes, sets & props for the final presentation of a favorite children’s story. Each class will focus on different subjects introduced by the story including animals, foods, colors & numbers. Children will create a presentation of the story for a mini-production on the last day of class. Fun & art based, the children won’t even realize how much SPANISH they are learning as they create each aspect in a cooperative fashion for our final class. All materials included. Please dress for mess!

May 2 - June 6

Portfolio Prep

Ages 12 and up
Fridays: 6:00pm -8:00pm (6 weeks)

This is a foundations art class that will give students a start on developing a strong art portfolio. Each week students will work on a key component for their portfolio focusing on a specific medium or technique. This is a great class for anyone interested in learning about the core skills needed for a strong foundation in further art studies.

Fantastic Fairies Workshop

Pirate Adventure Workshop

Saturday, May 3 10:00am -12:00pm

Ahoy mates! We need some pirates to help us look for a secret treasure. First we need to create the items every pirate needs: from an eye patch to handmade bandannas. We'll surely look the part to search for our secret treasure! All materials provided. Dress for mess.

April Vacation Island Camp
for Ages 5 -7
April 22-April 25

Tuesday - Friday 10:00am - 1:00pm

With a Gallery Show at 12:30pm on Friday. Come to our version of the islands...

We’ll tie-dye, learn some island music, make cool surfer jewelry, paint seashells and more! Pack a lunch and beach towel, and we’ll have a freeze pop for a cool snack during our hot island escape!

Call and book your trip to the DAA Island Camp. This will fill up quickly!

Most of our classes require a minimum of 5 students in order to run. Please sign-up at least 7 days before the class is scheduled to begin to avoid the disappointment of a cancelled class.
