Children's Classes & Workshops

Children’s classes and workshops at the Duxbury Art Association are a great way to add
creativity to your child’s day. We offer classes for children as young as 3 years old and have designed classes and workshops for all of the unique stages of your child’s growth and development. Choose from classes that meet weekly for 6-8 weeks or workshops that meet
just once, either will add color and fun to your child’s life. Art, we need it now more than ever.

PDF version of our course registration form, or call us (781)934.2731, ext 4 from 9:00am until 5:00pm Monday through Friday. We can register students for classes over the phone and complete the process with payment by either MasterCard or Visa. The whole process takes
just moments and promises a season of creative rewards!

Children's Art Classes
Mornings & early afternoons
for 4 ½ to 7 year olds:

MONDAYS

Kolorful Kids

Mondays 10:00am - 11:30am or
1:00pm - 2:30pm (8 weeks)
We will be working with various art mediums, and exploring and experimenting with literature and music. We’ll start each class with sketching out our work. Let’s use our imaginations to create fun artwork! This will be a positive experience for your child. All materials included. Register early for this fun class, it often sells out! Be sure to dress for mess!

Cartooning

Session one: September 20 –October 4

Session two: October 18 – November 8
Learn how to make your cartoons come alive. We will create believable superheroes that fly, save the world and have incredible super powers. We will place them in a comic strip to tell your fantastic tale. The practice of storyboarding and beginning animation will be introduced. Students will learn to draw the figure as the basis of their cartoon characters. Dress for mess and all materials provided. Sign up for one or both sessions. Returning students as well as newcomers are invited to sign up.

Printmaking Plus

Try the different methods of printmaking such as relief, monoprints, collagraph, and silkscreen with inks (or paint) and various media to create unique printing plates. Dress for mess. Includes all materials

Fun with Famous Artists

Learn about a different artist each week and create artwork modeling that artist in a different medium and style. A great class for the creative art enthusiast!

Beginning Machine Sewing

Do you want to design & make your own Halloween Costume? Design & Make your own Fashions! Have some great fabric that would look terrific as a new skirt? Bring your machine (we have a few to lend, if needed) and learn how great it feels when someone compliments your clothes & you can say, “Thanks, I made it myself!” No prior sewing experience needed.

Carpentry Sculpture

Use real tools to make 3-D art. With pliers, wire nails, etc., and using woodworking as well as some traditional materials we will create several exciting projects that will likely have a special place in your home for years to come. Skills with woodworking tools will be encouraged as well as more traditional sculpture techniques in plaster and/or wire. Famous sculptures in Art History will be presented and discussed as references. All materials included. Dress for mess. Sign up for one or both sessions!

Animal Art

Create fantastic animal art with a wide variety of mediums. Two dimensional and three dimensional works will be created while learning about real and imagined creatures. Sculpt, paint, and use found objects to create animals and their habitats. Dress for mess. All materials included.

Learn the foundations of drawing. Perspective, value, composition and structure will be covered. By establishing strong drawing skills, future work will hold up in all media. All materials included.

Exploring Clay

This class introduces students to all the basic construction methods of pinch, coil, slab, and wheel, as well as enhancing the knowledge of those students who may have more advanced skills. Photoshop for Total Beginners

Do you want to take your digital photography to the next level? Learn how to color-correct, manipulate and create web-ready photographs with Photoshop CS5. In this beginner level class, you learn the basics of a program that is used by professional photographers everywhere. Learn to scan and repair old photographs, or enhance photos straight from your digital camera! Learn all the basics needed to improve your photography skills in this fun new class!

Fashion Design

Do you know the difference between a bell sleeve and bell bottoms? Learn all about historical dress, different fabrics & styles of clothes to create your own line of clothes. Students will learn lots material before actually designing new outfits and ensembles. This class is the DAA’s fun version of Project Runway!

Portfolio Prep

This is a foundations art class that will give students a start on developing a strong art portfolio. Each week students will work on a key component for their portfolio focusing on a specific medium or technique. This is a great class for anyone interested in learning about the core skills needed for a strong foundation in further art studies.

KIDS WORKSHOPS

Annual Pumpkin Decorating & Carving Workshop

Gallery of Great Pumpkins follows….

Make a mess in our studio! Paint, decorate & embellish your pumpkin entry for the annual Gallery of Great Pumpkins. Lots of fun materials will be available to decorate a pumpkin that YOU bring. All carving must be supervised by parents or guardian. Students over 6 years old can carve using our tools and templates as well as decorative finishes for the younger set. The workshop is $10.00 per pumpkin and will allow you to enter your pumpkin in the Gallery of Great Pumpkins for free!
